Wheel of Coffee – Like Wheel of Fortune, but Even Better!
Are you tired of drinking the same old coffee every morning? Do you want to try a new flavor or style of coffee at your favorite Bradenton coffee shop? Maybe you want to try a different cup of coffee but you just do not know where to start? Is the coffee you are drinking now not locally roasted, Bradenton single-origin coffee that is just, blah? Are you ready to branch out and try something different?
Well, our friends over at SCA have come up with a flavor wheel to help pick out a new single-origin coffee to try. You can click on and zoom in on the flavor wheel. However, we wanted to lay out in this blog the various flavor profiles Bradenton’s Banyan Coffee has for your enjoyment.
We wanted to piggyback off the graphic displayed about and breakdown our current stock of single-origin Bradenton coffee by category. Hopefully by seeing all the options, picking out a new coffee to try is made easier for you.
Before that though, we need to define all the categories to make it easier to follow and pick some new coffees out:
Flavor – The notes and taste of what you are consuming
Roast – The amount of heart a coffee cherry is roasted with, dictating flavor, strength, acidity, body, and sweetness
Roast Process – How a coffee cherry is roasted. See below for more detail….
- Natural Process: This original, tried-and-true roast process has been around for hundreds of years and dates back to originating in Ethiopia. After the coffee beans are sourced, they are then washed, and placed on drying beds. Once dry, they are placed inside of a coffee roaster so the magic can happen. It is set at a certain temperature with a specific duration of time. Once they come out, the now darkened and ready-to-drink coffee beans are going to have a new home in a Banyan Coffee bag. Interestingly enough, this process yields deep, fruity flavor notes. Banyan’s Bradenton Ethiopia Coffee is natural processed with notes of blueberry, graham cracker, and strawberry that people rave about…
- Washed Process: Unlike the natural process, the fruit from the coffee bean is removed before processing. Through this washed process, we are able to focus on the beans original flavor with the cherry being pulped from the bean by removing the outer layer of the bean through the help of a machine. After this, the beans are then soaked and fermented in water for 24 – 48 hours. Once it is done soaking and fermenting, the outer layer of the bean is then “washed off” from the bean as it dries. The washed process brings out the origin of the bean, typically producing the highest quality coffees.
- Wet-Hull Process: The wet-hull process originates from Indonesia and translates as Giling Basah. It is a relatively simple roast process. The pulp from the coffee bean are removed while being exposed to high moisture levels. They are then fermented from 12 – 24 hours to break down the mucilage, which is the layer of fruit beneath the skin, which then gets washed off. The difference between the washed process and wet-hull is the moisture content inside of the bean.
Acidity – The amount of acidity in the coffee fluctuating the smoothness and bitterness of the coffee in your cup
Body – This is the mouthfeel of the coffee when consuming it, typically the weight and viscosity of the coffee on the tongue
Sweetness – Simple enough, this is how sweet or unsweet the coffee taste
Recommended Brew Method – The best way to brew the coffee to bring the most life out of the Bradenton coffee grounds you are brewing
